Saad Al-Faqih, Saudi politician and founder of the Islamic Reform Movement, told Shehab news agency that the continued impriosnment of Mohammed Al-Khudari, former Hamas representative in Saudi Arabia and who did not commit any crimes, is against the Saudi and international norms.
Al-Faqih added that arresting Al-Khudari aimed to force Hamas make concessions to the Israeli occupation and to prevent any solidarity with the Palestinian cause in SA.
Lamia Fadla, President of Geneva Council For Rights and Liberties, supported Al-Faqih’s position saying that the arrest of tens of Palestinians, including Al-Khudari, in Saudi Arabia was arbitrary and illegal because it is based on unclear charges.
Fadla warned that the detainees in Saudi prisons were subjected to torture, and most of them were denied family visits. They also suffered from medical neglect, especially Dr. Mohammed Al-Khudari. She warned against the verdicts that detainees might be sentenced to, and stressed that they were illegal and null according to international norms. She urged the UN to take action against the Saudi violation of human rights.
The family of Dr. Mohammed Al-Khudari in the Gaza Strip sent a letter to the Emirs of Qatar and Kuwait via the Shehab Agency to intervene and help release him and dozens of Palestinians from Saudi prisons.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Kudari, 83 and resident in Jeddah since 1992, has been detained by the Saudi State Security Investigation Service since April 4, 2019. He is a cancer patient, and has previously served as a representative of Hamas in the Kingdom.
