Graduation Ceremony of "Human Rights Researcher" Training Program

The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (I.C.S.R) in collaboration with the PALM Strategic Initiatives Centre graduated 58 participants, who took part in the "Human Rights Researcher" training program in a ceremony held in Post Pal company in Gaza, in conjunction with Human Rights Day.

Salah Abdel Atti, the chairman of the I.C.S.R, said that the commission improved different means to upgrade the Palestinian youth through several programs. Mainly, the "Human Rights Researcher" training program, which depended on three strategic goals: to strengthen the participation of youth in social issues, to benefit from their abilities in documenting the violations of human rights, and to improve new human rights tools, according to a strategy based on qualitative research.

He added that, through this 8-month training, the researchers submitted 37 fact sheets, 15 policy papers, and several qualitative reports; some of them were published and some are still being discussed by several parties.

Moreover, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Zaeem, the director of the PALM Strategic Initiatives Centre, said "the Palestinians fight the Israeli occupation on all fronts. Thus, the path of human rights is important to prove our rights in this land, raise the world's awareness about our issue, and expose the Israeli occupation's arbitrary measures and violations against our national rights and holy places." He also added that there must human rights researchers and attorneys that can document the occupation's crimes with the available resources on the ground.

Furthermore, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Ostath, on behalf of the trainers, said "the I.C.S.R chose a unique training program. According to the Arab Human Development Report, the Palestinian universities graduate generations that lack the skills of scientific research." He also mentioned the Arab Researcher's Environment Report which pointed out the lack of a good, safe environment to qualify the Palestinian researchers with high scientific research skills.

He also called on the educational institutes to adopt this program and to improve the students' and academicians' skills of scientific research in order to affect the local and global societies through solid reports and writings. Eventually, he congratulated the training program's graduates for obtaining the right scientific research.

Finally, the researcher Rawan Al-Shawwa, who gave the graduates' speech, said "we worked together on solving problems. We are grateful for this program for improving our scientific research skills. It was marked by teamwork, professionalism, efficiency, and achievements of tasks within groups either from Gaza or abroad via Zoom, increasing cooperation and familiarity between the Palestinian people."
