The General Assembly to the United Nations stressed the need for the international community's continued support to the Palestinian refugees through political and financial support to UNRWA: addressing the chronic shortfall in its budget.
This came during its annual UNRWA Donors conference, which is being held for the first time since the start of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The importance of the conference came just before the adoption and extension of UNRWA's mandate. Donor States agreed on the importance of UNRWA's role in providing services to Palestine’s refugees in all areas of operation and that UNRWA's essential role in providing a decent living for refugees should not be dispensed with, Particularly in the current economic crisis in the world, until a just political solution to their cause is achieved.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized that investing in UNRWA meant investing in stability in the region.
