18 Years on Arafat Martydom

Today marks the 18th anniversary of the martyrdom of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat “Abu Ammar.”

Arafat, also known as “Mohammed Yasser” Abdel Raouf Suliman Arafat Al-Qudwa Al-Hussaini, was born on August 4, 1929 in Al-Quds. He studies in Cairo, majored in engineering.

He and some Palestinian national figures participated in the establishment of Fatah, became an official spokesman and was elected as a President to the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization.

Arafat and then PM Issac Rabin signed the Oslo agreement in 1993, by which he and the PLO returned to Palestine, entered Gaza and West Bank, and was elected as a President to the Palestinian Authority in 1996.

In 2000, he was surrounded by the occupation in the Presidency Headquarters for supporting Al-Aqsa Intifada until he was martyred in 2004.
