Even after mitigation, Gantz is not permitted to approve the reconciliation proposal in which he relaxed the law to repeal the pretext of reasonableness; doing so would mean approving the fact that Aré Deri's appointment to the position of Minister will not be hindered by the presumption of reasonableness (the judicial suspension is still in effect).
Gantz had been ready for it in the past, including his endorsement of the president's strategy, but circumstances had changed. The demonstration has gained momentum, and the coalition's goals—including the firing of the government's legal counsel, administrative detentions, and support for the selection of teachers—are now more apparent and ominous than ever.
Gantz has behaved nearly perfectly thus far. His strategy was wise. Always make sure to seek peace even if you don't completely achieve it.  In addition, Gantz gains a third of the Likud voters who favor reconciliation over the continuation of legislation. He also keeps the support of those who oppose the agreement but cannot reach an understanding with Netanyahu.
The fact that Gantz is aware of Yair Lapid's desire to accept the reconciliation proposal, which would lighten the law and severely harm his opponent in the leadership of the camp, is useful.
