Haniya Sends Message to Erdogan

Feb 15, 2021 12:00 pm

Ismail Haniya, Chief of Hamas Political Bureau, sent a message to the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressing appreciation to Turkey's support to the Palestinian issue updating him on the results of the Cairo dialogue. Turkey, along with Egypt, Qatar and Russia, are responsible for guaranteeing the factions’ agreement.

Haniya’s message is part of his diplomatic action that is meant to support the implementation of elections and results of the Cairo dialogue.

He also said that Turkey's expected role in the elections is to ensure that they are held at the time decided by the presidential decree, and guarantee its credibility in the West Bank and Gaza.

Turkey is also expected to exercise pressure on the Israeli occupation through its relations with the international community to prevent the occupation from intervening in the electoral process, especially in occupied Al-Quds.

Haniya invited Turkey to take part in monitoring the elections and to work with the international community so the results are respected; and post-2006 elections boycott is not repeated – when the Palestinian people’s choice was not respected.
