Possibility of Postponing Palestinian Elections

Apr 21, 2021 11:28 am

Nabil Chaath, adviser to the President of the Palestinian Authority, stated that postponing elections was expected because the occupation did not respond to the request of holding elections in the occupied Al-Quds. He stressed that the elections would not be held without Al-Quds as the occupation wants to separate Al-Quds from other Palestinian territories.

He pointed that the president Mahmoud Abbas sent Riad Al-Maliki on a tour to Europe to mobilize international support to exercise pressure on the occupation to allow the conduct of elections in Al-Quds.

Walla website reported that the occupation's army will be on alert in case the Palestinian elections are delayed. The army has concerns over the eruption of confrontations in areas under the PA's control, and their possible escalation to resistance operations as a result to the Palestinian people's disappointment.

The website added that military officials were not ruling out the possibility of rockets being fired from the Gaza Strip in response to the elections postponement.
