Netanyahu Fails to Form Government

May 05, 2021 11:40 am

PM Benjamin Netanyahu failed to form the Israeli government and to conclude coalition agreements with other blocs.

A short time before the end of the 28-day deadline, Netanyahu declared his failure. It is expected that Reuven Rivlin assigns Lapid next, or consult with the parties to see their recommended candidate for the government formation.

Netanyahu is trying to prevent Lapid's assignment in order to thwart the change bloc's formation of a government. He has recommended his own bloc's parties to nominate Naftali Bennett to form the government so that he would form a right rotation government with Netanyahu.

Kan reported Knesset Speaker Yariv Levin secret talk with Haredi Knesset members saying that the Likud would recommend the assignment of Bennett. However, sources in Yamina said that Netanyahu is hoping for a fifth round of elections despite his suggestion for a rotation government.

The army's radio mentioned that the Likud knows that Rivlin would not give the party and bloc a second chance because they already had one to form the government and failed.
