Small Chances for Israeli Government Formation

May 26, 2021 01:33 pm

Israeli media reported observers' comments on Yair Lapid's small chances of forming a government as Naftali Bennett and Gideon Sa'ar are hesitant to accept Arab lists' support.

Channel 11 said that Gideon Sa'ar told Lapid that he would not join any coalition without Yamina, completely refusing to work with the Arab Joint List but willing to sit with the United Arab List whose leader is Mansour Abbas.

The opposing blocs are working on enforcing a law that dissolves the Knesset if a coalition formation fails.

Dr. Ayman Al-Riqib, Professor of Political Sciences and member in Fatah, told Sputnik that the aggression on Gaza helped Netanyahu. Two Yamina members quit the party and joined the Likud. Therefore, chances of forming an Israeli government are getting even smaller.

Al-Riqib said that if they fail to form a government, a fifth round of elections may be approaching and Netanyahu will try to win more votes.
