Civil, Rights Organizations Urge for International Investigation on Banat Assassination

102 human rights and civil organizations and networks condemned in a press release the assassination of the politician and rights activist Nizar Banat in Hebron in the occupied West Bank and the recent violations carried out by the PA security against freedom of expression and peaceful protest.

The institutes said that the victim's family stated that about 25 members from the Palestinian security body broke into the house and hit his head with metal sticks and took him to an unknown destination. Two hours later, Hebron governor announced his death.

The signers on the statement considered this action as a grave violation of freedom of expression in the occupied Palestine and a shameful stain on the history of the PA. They also expressed their concerns over such crime.

The organizations demanded the formation of an investigation committe that is both independent and unbiased to uncover all those responsible for the execution of the crime, and urged for the formation of an international investigation committee by the UN Commissioner to compare its results with those provided by the governmental committee and the independent one
