Tension Continues in Gaza, May Escalate

Jul 04, 2021 02:15 pm

The Israeli Maariv newspaper said that some security and military estimates tell of the continuation of tension in Gaza and its possible escalation.

They reported the occupation's preparation for more serious scenarios including the possible relaunch of rockets from the Gaza Strip especially that the negotiations between the occupation and Hamas under Egyptian mediation have not been going well.

The newspaper reported from an Israeli high-profile source that the gaps between the occupation and Hamas were big, referring to Hamas' relaunch of burning balloons after the failure of the meeting which was held last week in Cairo and return of the Israeli delegation to Tel Aviv. The occupation refused to change its position on linking the reconstruction file with the captured soldiers issues, and opposed the transfer of Qatari money to Hamas directly.

It also referred to the military attacks the army had carried out, last of which was last night, against Hamas targets in response to the launch of balloons. It is expected that the army intensifies its attacks the coming days should the burning balloons continue to be launched.
