The Israeli Government: A Game Run by Netanyahu; Will He Win?

Apr 20, 2020 11:07 am

The Israeli crisis has not ended yet. The occupation’s entity at present time is different from the past; especially its political system that claims democracy and its leaders who claim their disinterest in power. In fact, the curse of the founding fathers, which is always mentioned by Netanyahu in political and unpolitical meetings, haunts the occupation as 80 years have passed since its presence in Palestine.

Treachery is one of the attributes the Jews are famous for; and they claim that when they betray their friends, allies or enemies, it is always for their ‘country’s’ best interests and sustainability. This is exactly what Benny Gantz, Blue and White Chairman, did after running for PM. He used to say he would never be part of a government headed by ‘Netanyahu’, who is accused of bribery and corruption.

In reality, however, Gantz sat with Netanyahu at one table in order to negotiate on the formation of a unity government. They still have not reached final results nor have they announced the formation of a unity government ‘emergency government’, but they did agree on Netanyahu serving the first term (two years) and Gantz the remaining two. This, however, cost Gantz losing the parties which had supported him because he left them behind hoping to succeed Netanyahu in running the government.

Insight of the Situation

After all the concessions Gantz made to Netanyahu, his counterpart, the situation has become alarming after Yair Lapid, Knesset Member and Yesh Atid Party Chairman, had announced his support to Netanyahu should the latter refuse to form a unity government with Gantz.

Surprising to Lieberman, Yisrael Beiteinu Party Chairman, he posted a tweet asking about Lapid’s plan and whether he would save Netanyahu or not. Lapid tweeted back saying his aspiration was not saving Netanyahu.

Lapid’s tweet indicates that something is being planned in secret in order to topple Gantz and prevent him from serving his term. If Lapid supports Netanyahu, the latter would receive a total number of 75 seats (59 the Right seats and 16 Yesh Atid seats). This will lead to Gantz’ fall and Netanyahu’s rule alone.

In response to Lapid’s statement, Netanyahu remained silent.

The cards have quickly shuffled since the third round of elections in favor of Netanyahu and his rule. While his actions could raise suspicion among viewers of the occupation’s political arena, people with insight of Netanyahu’s character can identify his pattern. He always surpasses the other players and replaces them with other players who share him his thoughts and beliefs.

Netanyahu has already ruined the political career of Ehud Barak, Moshe Ya’alon, Avigdor Lieberman and others. Now, he seeks to destroy ‘Benny Gantz’. Looking into the history and character of Netanyahu, one could realize the game he is running in order to maintain his post as the Prime Minister of the ‘Israeli’ government, which he has been running for more than 11 years.

Gantz is now receiving a lot of threats for his inability to form a government after Lapid had supported him. After Gantz’ betrayal of Lapid, the bribery and corruption accusations are haunting Netanyahu the most, but the traps he is making are serving his purposes. It would not be strange for Netanyahu to have planned for a fourth election in order to form a government on his own using the support of Gantz’ earlier supporters; politically destroying Gantz as well.

The situation is changing amidst further Arab normalization with ‘Israel’, which was recently openly declared in a Saudi series that presents normalization as a part of reality. Netanyahu praised the work and said it was the result of his continuous efforts he exerts with Arab countries.

Possible Scenarios

  1. Gantz and Netanyahu rule together under one government disregarding Lapid’s statement and without holding a fourth round of elections.
  2. Gantz and Netanyahu terminate their partnership and hold a fourth election in which Netanyahu and his bloc win and the Left lose everything.
  3. The Supreme Court of ‘Israel’ declares the necessity to prosecute Netanyahu who fails to defend himself and is, thus, sent to prison. The entity, then, would hold a fourth round of elections with new political figures taking over.

All of the scenarios depend on how serious Yair Lapid is about supporting Netanyahu against Gantz. If Lapid shows any indications of seriousness, the second scenario will probably be Netanyahu’s first and immediate choice.
