Foreign Media Camp Graduation Ceremony

40 participants celebrated their graduation from the foreign media camp entitled “Shireen's Legacy Lives On”, which was implemented by the Thuraya Foundation for Communication and Media, with funding from the PALM Strategic Initiative Center.

The ceremony included several artistic and theatrical segments embodying the assassination of the journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh, the targeting of children and the martyrdom of a number of them in the recent aggression on the Gaza Strip. The participants also sent messages in English and French to the world to expose the crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinians.

The Manager of the Thuraya Foundation for Communication and Media, Suzan Zaida, said: “This camp was not the first training camp held by the foundation, but was preceded by many camps, with the motive of developing youth skills to serve and support the Palestinian cause at the international level”.

She stressed that the Foundation aims to achieve the rising and development of media skills to serve the just cause and refute the false Israeli narrative that the occupier is promoting against the Palestinian people, pointing out that “we are on the path of Shireen and will not allow the truth to be covered by the falseness of the occupation”.

Zaida thanked the PALM Strategic Initiative Center for their constant cooperation and support for this camp.

In her turn, the spokeswoman for the PALM Strategic Initiative Center, Nuha Eleyan, said: “Rehabilitating Palestinian women who are able to speak in English is important to expose the falsehood of the Israeli narrative, which visualize the killer as a victim, and the Palestinian people as the offended”.

She considered this camp a tool for resisting the Israeli occupation, stressing the importance of the foreign media's role in conveying the true picture of what is happening in Palestine, hoping that the camp will pay off by employing the graduates of what they learned in the training program in the service of the Palestinian cause.

Eleyan pointed out that the Western society suffers from the absence of the Palestinian narrative that reflects the crimes of the occupation against the Palestinians, in light of the failure of the Palestinian media to expose it for several reasons, the most important of which is the English language.

In a speech of the graduates, Hadeel Junaid said: “The camp dealt with several aspects that help develop the journalistic skills of the participants, and the most important of which is the translation of media terminology, journalistic writing of all kinds, lectures in mobile journalism, as well as lectures on the use of social media sites, pointing out that they will launch an electronic campaign to support the Palestinian cause after the camp ends”.

For her part, the participant, Sujoud Shaniora, said in a speech to the graduates, “We left this camp with its goals of enhancing the media skills of English speakers to create a media cadre capable of delivering the message of its people to the Western world and to refute the Zionist narrative that works to obliterate the truth and whitewash the crimes of the occupier against the Palestinians”.
