The International Court of Justice in The Hague officially announced that it had received a request from the United Nations General Assembly to draft an advisory opinion on the legality of Israel's ongoing occupation of the occupied West Bank.
In a statement, the International Court of Justice said: "The United Nations has asked us to consult on the legal consequences of Israel's occupation of Palestinian land."
According to Israel's Yediouth Ahronoth newspaper, the Court did not announce the next step in the proceedings, and said the Court was expected to invite States and organizations to submit a written opinion within 30 days, after which a plenary session would be held.
