A Dangerous Lesson

Last week's operations in Al-Quds were carried out by two Jerusalemite men, who had blue ID card. Apparently, they are part of us. So, what pushes a young man to have a gun and kill?

In my opinion, education is the matter. Education in eastern Al-Quds is deficient and it is mired in serious incitement. In East Al-Quds, more than two thousand of classrooms are missing, there are no sports fields, arenas, scientific laboratories or computer laboratories, hours of reinforcement and enrichment and clubs. There is no long day of education and no nutrition project that provides hot meals for pupils. This reality leads to loitering and sometimes to "killing."

Incitement in the education system in the east of the city works in educational frameworks that are not Israeli. Three frameworks operate in the city: the first is subject to the Israeli Ministry of Education; the second to Islamic endowments; and the third to a group of private schools. The common factor among them is teaching from books written only in Arabic. They don't learn from Israeli books, but in accordance to the Palestinian curriculum "Tawjihi" with teaching books produced by the Palestinian Authority printed in Ramallah.

In these books, Israel is perceived as an enemy, with clear incitement against Israel and the glorification of martyrs. The two young men who carried out the last two weeks were graduates of this teaching system.

With the new government, it is time to roll up the sleeves and begin an immediate and in-depth treatment of the issue. Israel cannot allow the passage of the content of incitement that allow the hurt of the lives of Jewish citizens of the State.
