For a brief while, it appears as though everyone has forgotten the recent turmoil and has resumed their regular routines with the intention of facing g the same miserable situation once more. Has any of our capable politicians managed to internalize the lesson?
They brought up the subject of "reform" once more within the coalition and threatened to take unilateral action "if there were no consensus". It is difficult to expect anything else from the current coalition, which is built up of many extremist parties that only speak the language of force and the moderates in the coalition see themselves as a minority in the government. As for the opposition, it is engaged in an internal war as usual, which leads us to a dead end.
It is regrettable how the opposition is acting. Gantz and Lapid should propose a calm alternative in light of the imbalance in the government. The majority of the population wants peace because they are sick of the detrimental effects on security, relations with the United States, the economy, society, and culture.
So what is the counterpoint to serenity? First, give up the conflict. Although many Likudists harshly condemn Gantz and Lapid, they freely say that they would have preferred a government with them than one with the extremists. We realized that unanimity would not emerge from the president's residence, Lapid and Gantz might assert, due to the Likud's membership in an extremist alliance. But with the Likud unity government, "A New Hope" and "There Is a Future," good reform will be achievable with a wide consensus of 68 seats, and possibly more. This is the only way to bring the state back to reason; who knows, a constitution could even be necessary.
