Israeli Army Radio reported that Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi (mistakenly named Eyal Zamir, who previously held the role) stated that "the war on Gaza has become without a clear strategy," calling on the political leadership to clarify future strategic plans.
Zamir warned that the Security Cabinet ("the Cabinet") has not convened for a long time, and that the army lacks clarity regarding the next steps, as directives from the political echelon remain vague.
He further cautioned that prolonged presence in Gaza without clear plans puts soldiers' lives at risk and serves Hamas’s goal of dragging Israel into a war of attrition.
Zamir pointed to two potential scenarios if efforts to finalize a deal fail: full occupation of Gaza—which the army opposes—or a strategy of siege and attrition targeting residential areas within the Strip.
