Prisoners Face Harsh Conditions Due to High Temperature

In light of the extreme temperature wave that is currently affecting the area, the Palestine Center for Prisoner Studies stated that the prisoners in the occupation jails, particularly those in the southern prisons, are currently living in very harsh and terrible conditions.

According to the center, the rooms where the prisoners are kept are sealed off from the outside world, have no proper ventilation, and only a few fans that blow hot, flaming air, which adds to the prisoners' suffering—especially given the high humidity—as well as the battlefields that they are unable to access because of the intense heat.

The center's director, Riyad Al-Ashqar, foresaw the negative effects on the prisoners in these adverse weather conditions, fearing that some of them would experience sunstroke or fainting and shortness of breath due to the temperature and hot air, indicating that these conditions increase the danger to the lives of sick prisoners and increase their suffering in light of the lack of real medical care and the practice of a policy of medical negligence and slow killing policy.
