Occupation Responds to the International Court of Justice Regarding the Occupation of Palestinian Territories

Jul 28, 2023 12:20 pm

An Israeli report revealed that the Israeli occupation government has officially submitted its response to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, following the UN's request for an advisory opinion on the legal consequences of the ongoing occupation of Palestinian lands.

The Israeli response primarily argues that the court "lacks jurisdiction" to consider the Palestinian request, claiming that the matter should be resolved through direct negotiations with the Palestinian Authority.

The official Israeli channel considered that Israel attempted to evade the issue twice. Firstly, by suggesting that the dispute over the occupied territories should be resolved through negotiations with the Palestinians, even though the current Israeli government rejects any negotiations or dialogue with the Palestinian side.

Secondly, the same official response from Tel Aviv confirmed its refusal to cooperate with the court in this regard, demonstrating another instance of evasion.
The United States expressed its official support for Israel's claim that the court "is not the appropriate place to address the conflicts" between Palestinians and Israelis and sent a formal response to the court aligned with Tel Aviv's position."
