Why the Palestinian Leadership Sent Vague Message to Congratulate Biden

Nov 10, 2020 01:33 pm

The Israeli journalist Jackie Khoury said in an article to Haartz that the PA’s leadership delayed its congratulatory message to Joe Biden for winning the elections because it was waiting for other leaders to send their congratulations first. The PA sent a vague letter showing aspirations for cooperation for peace, stability and security in the region and the entire world. The PA did not refer to the two-state solution in the 1967 borders or the security coordination in order to level up the expectations at this stage. He added that the PA’s leadership believes that Biden will take positive steps in its direction such as restoring the economic aids and reinforcing the security collaboration – and perhaps opening a US Consulate in the eastern side of the occupied Al-Quds and supporting projects in the West Bank. This could happen after four years of pressure exercised on the PA by former President Donald Trump and after the setback in the relations between them since the transfer of the US Embassy to occupied Al-Quds. Even if the decisions are made, no real steps will be taken immediately as Biden will be busy with his country’s internal affairs, so the PA will wait months before anything real happens.
