Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, held the Israeli occupation responsible for the collapse of the ceasefire agreement reached in the Gaza Strip, affirming that his country is working to bring perspectives closer toward an agreement that would end the suffering of the Palestinian people.
During a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Russian capital, Moscow, Sheikh Tamim stated: “We reached an agreement regarding Gaza several months ago, but Israel did not comply with it.”
He added, “We will continue to work on narrowing the gaps to reach an agreement that ends the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza.”
Under the mediation of Qatar and Egypt, a ceasefire agreement between the Palestinian resistance and the Israeli occupation was reached last January. The agreement consisted of three interconnected phases.
The first phase lasted 42 days and included a prisoner exchange between the two sides. However, in March, the Israeli occupation violated the agreement and resumed its aggression on the Gaza Strip, refusing to proceed to the second phase.
