Palestinian workers in the Gaza Strip are experiencing a complete inability to secure a source of income due to the ongoing Israeli war, according to a statement by the Government Media Office in Gaza.
In a statement marking International Workers’ Day, the office said: “Workers in Gaza are facing extremely harsh conditions as a result of the 18-year-long Israeli blockade, compounded by the destruction of vital infrastructure and facilities.”
It added that unemployment among workers has reached unprecedented levels, now exceeding 50%, making Gaza one of the regions with the highest unemployment rates in the world.
The statement stressed that the destruction of industrial facilities and public service centers by the occupation during repeated assaults has left workers without any stable income, pushing them deeper into a worsening humanitarian crisis that has intensified since the start of the war.
Statistical reports further revealed that dozens of Palestinian workers have been killed in Israeli airstrikes, while many others have sustained severe injuries preventing them from returning to work.
