The Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom, citing Egyptian sources, reported that efforts to reach a temporary truce in Gaza have failed, as the Israeli government insists on expanding its military operations in the Strip.

The report added that Israel informed mediators of its rejection of the ceasefire proposal in Gaza and has backed down from the terms that had been agreed upon in recent days.

It also confirmed that the Israeli government expressed its intention to maintain its forces inside Gaza until the end of this year and to broaden the scope of its military campaign.
