U.S. Blocks U.N. Security Council Resolution to End War on Gaza

The United Nations Security Council failed to adopt a draft resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the entry of humanitarian aid, due to the United States vetoing the proposal.

This vote marked the first Security Council session on the war in Gaza since November, when the U.S. under President Joe Biden previously blocked a similar resolution calling for a ceasefire.

The most recent adopted resolution dates back to June 2024, when the Council endorsed a U.S.-proposed multi-phase ceasefire plan, which included the release of Israeli captives held in Gaza. However, this truce only came into effect in January 2025, before being later violated by Israel.
