Sources from Hamas stated that ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip are still ongoing, pending a final decision on the clause concerning the deployment maps of the Israeli army within the territory during the proposed 60-day ceasefire period.
According to the sources, who spoke to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, the issue of the withdrawal maps largely depends on the Israeli response. The Palestinian negotiating delegation is waiting for the mediators to deliver the Israeli government’s approval before giving their own consent to the proposed maps.
The sources added that the maps were presented by the mediators and are a modified version of those previously submitted by the Israeli government. The updated maps reportedly show a withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Morag axis, which separates Khan Younis and Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
