Irene Khan, the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to freedom of expression, said that “Israel” is trying to hide what is happening in Gaza from the world.
She added that the Israeli army is a killer, is starving civilians, and has lost all credibility, warning that Israel’s prevention of international media from entering Gaza is out of fear of being exposed.
Khan called on Israel’s allies to impose sanctions on it to stop the killing in Gaza, stressing that “journalism is not terrorism, but one of the noblest professions.”
On Sunday evening, six journalists — including Al Jazeera correspondents Anas Al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqa — were martyred when Israeli forces bombed their press tent in western Gaza City.
