Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari said that Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim participated in talks in the Egyptian city of El Alamein to discuss ways to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.

He noted that Doha and Cairo are still waiting for Israel’s response to Hamas’ approval of the proposal, adding: “There is no specific timeframe for the response, but we have heard that Israel is reviewing the matter, and we hope the reply will come quickly and positively.”

Al-Ansari explained that the proposal Hamas agreed to is largely consistent with what Israel had previously accepted. However, he stressed that “there are no real guarantees on the ground other than the commitment of both parties to implement the agreement.”
