The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem issued a joint statement confirming that the monks and nuns in Gaza City have decided to remain in the churches and not evacuate to the south of the Strip, despite the occupation government’s decision to take control of the city and displace its residents.

The statement explained that the compound of St. Porphyrius Greek Orthodox Church and the compound of the Holy Family Church have, since the outbreak of the war, turned into a refuge for hundreds of civilians, including the elderly, women, children, and people with disabilities.

It also pointed out that many of the refugees inside these two compounds are suffering from emaciation and malnutrition due to the harsh conditions that have persisted for months, while the priests and nuns insisted on staying beside them and continuing to care for them, despite the increasing risks.
