Palestinian sources reported that the Israeli occupation’s army and settlers destroyed about 5711 olive trees in the Palestinian lands this year while destroyed about 9660 trees last year. Ibrahim Abu Hashem, scholar at Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, said that the army and the settlers destroyed during this year’s olive harvest 1548 trees using several methods such as cutting, bulldozing, burning and pumping sewage water. 100 military orders were issued to limit the Palestinian farmers’ movement in their own olive fields in the West Bank. According to the PLO’s Negotiations Affairs Department, the first 9 months of 2020 witnessed the destruction of 4163 olive trees. Some UN agencies and international non-governmental organizations (such as Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and AIDA) called for the protection of the Palestinians during the olive harvest season. The UNESCO declared November 26, 2019, the international day of olive trees.
