The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has warned that the ongoing malnutrition, as winter approaches, threatens the lives and health of children in the Gaza Strip, noting that nearly 9,900 cases of malnutrition have been recorded among children under the age of five.
UNICEF said: “The persistently high levels of malnutrition continue to endanger the lives and well-being of children in the Gaza Strip, a situation that is worsening with the onset of winter, which accelerates the spread of diseases and increases the risk of death among the most vulnerable children.”
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell stated that “thousands of children under five continue to suffer from acute malnutrition in Gaza, while many lack adequate shelter, sanitation services, and protection from the winter.”
She added: “Many children in Gaza continue to face hunger, illness, and exposure to low temperatures, in conditions that put their lives at risk."
