Yusuf Al-Akkad, Administrator of the European Gaza Hospital, confirmed to Al-Quds local radio that the number of infected patients with the Coronavirus in the Gaza Strip has been rapidly increasing. He also said that the hospital receives more cases at various infection levels on a daily basis. Many cases have been described as critical, and a great number of cases needs to stay in the ICUs and requires ventilators.
Yahya Abed, Committee Coordinator on Epidemiological situation in the Gaza Strip, said that the large-scale spread of infections in the Gaza Strip after the opening of the crossings confirms the arrival of the new virus. Abed said that in a week, all areas in the Strip had the same number of infections.
Abed said that the 54% of 200 beds for critical conditions have been used, and 27% of 300 beds for average cases. Until now, there is room for more patients, but if the rate increases then the Strip will be facing serious problems.
In the occupied West Bank, the Minister of Health Mai Al-Keila said that there has been little improvement in the area. She also said that the hospital beds have been operated at 90-100% while they used to be 120%. The situation is still grave nevertheless. The rate of positive tests reaches 20% which is alarming.
Al-Keila said that 100,000 Sinopharm vaccines from China and 25,000 astrazeneca vaccines are expected to enter the West Bank in 48 hours. Calls are still going in order to receive more vaccines.
