Obstacles Facing Change Government Formation

Jun 01, 2021 11:07 am

Israeli reports show that the new change government may not be formed. Although coalition agreements were mentioned, things remain unclear and a fifth round of elections may be in the horizon.

The change government does not have 61 Knesset members and depends on external support from Mansour Abbas' United List. This makes the government fragile and any block in the way can lead to its collapse.

Yedioth Ahronoth said that the main possible dispute in the coalition negotiations is the fact that 8 different parties are included in the government, and the distribution of ministries has not been finalized yet.

The right-bloc Knesset members are facing political and popular pressure for wanting to join the change government. Reports showed that the time factor could impact the success of the new government. The change parties' leaders are concerned over Levin's stalling and intentionally delay the official oath taking in order to influence the right-bloc Knesset members and exercising pressure on them until they withdraw.

The final obstacle is Netnayhu's resignation as Prime Minister which would make Gantz the new Prime Minister.
