The Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli occupation prisons participate, for the first time, in a scientific research contest announced by the General Political Committee of the High Leadership Commission of Hamas' Prisoners in the Israeli prisons, entitled "Al-Quds Sword Battle" contest.

On Wednesday, the results of the research contest were announced in the Ministry of Detainees and Ex-Detainees in Gaza in the presence of Bahaa Al-Madhoun; deputy of the Ministry of Detainees and Ex-Detainees, Ali Al-Amoudi; the head of Information Service of Hamas, Montaser Faraj; the representative of Hamas Leadership Commission in the prisoners, Zakaria Al-Sinwar; the head of the arbitration committee of the contest. In addition, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Zaeem; the director of the PALM Strategic Initiatives Centre, other representatives of Hadarat Centre, and a number of ex-detainees and prisoners' families.

18 prisoners participated in the contest; 10 of them won. The prisoner Hassan Salama won the first place and the prisoner Abbas Al-Sayyed won the second place, while Mahmoud Shraiteh won the third place and Amjad Al-Sayeh won the fourth.

Those researches have been included in a book, and will be translated to English and Malay with funding from the PALM Strategic Initiatives Centre.

Al-Sinwar said that the researches are strong and deep despite the lack of the resources for the prisoners. The researches were not confined to Al-Quds Sword battle, but diversified into 25 themes, indicating the prisoners' culture and their following up of the political actions regardless of their detention. This also appears in the issuance of a book written by one of the prisoners, which will be translated into six languages; he did not announce his name.

Al-Madoun paid tribute to all the prisoners whose resolve never weakened, and the ones who proved that they are capable of giving and participating in the resistance from behind the prison bars. He added that producing a book for the winning researches is a small achievement for the prisoners' creativities, as thousands of them completed their education in the prisons.

Faraj confirmed the High Leadership Commission's interest in developing the prisoners' political ideology and connecting them to the international and regional reality. From here, the idea of the research contest appeared.

Al-Quds Sword Battle, announced on July, 2021, was supposed to stop receiving the researches on November of the same year. However, the occupation's obstacles affected the prisoners' performance in preparing their researches. Most importantly, the state of unrest the prisoners lived inside the prisons after the Freedom Tunnel operation in Gilboa, and the lack of electronic and paper resources and references. So, the deadline was extended until December, 2021.
