Wave of Fedayeen Operations Spearheaded by Jenin

he cities of the occupied territories have been witnessing consecutive fedayeen operations since the beginning of 2022, irritating Israel's military, security and political system. So far, 14 colonial settlers were killed.

It has been found that the implementers of those fedayeen operations were from the 1948 and 1967 occupied lands. The majority of them were from Jenin, which is known as 'the city of Al-Qassam' or 'the spark of revolution,' referring to Izz ad-Din Al-Qassam, who took Jenin a place for the launch of armed revolution in Palestine against the British occupation.

The history of this Palestinian spot - with all of its camps and villages - is filled with Palestinian fedayeen fighters, who have been affecting the Israeli occupation for decades. As a result, the Israeli occupation sought to carry out a military operation in Jenin within the 2002 Operation Defensive Shield to eliminate the Palestinian Resistance from the West Bank generally, and Jenin specifically.

What's After Operation Defensive Shield?

After two decades of this operation, Jenin retakes the lead again. It continues to give birth to fedayeen fighters that can implement operations inside the occupied cities of Palestine with remarkable military tactics. For instance, the martyr Diaa Hamarshe, who carried out Tel-Aviv Operation, presented a high skill of shooting, it which he could hit a moving target by the first shot.

Ra'ed Khazem, from Jenin, was the next. He implemented his operation in Dizengoff st. in the occupied Yaffa, killing 3 colonial settlers and injuring others. We find that this tactic similar to Diaa's, or was even better as he could withdraw from the operation's location and disguise them that lies in one of the residential apartments, holding Israeli hostages.

Accordingly, the military and security occupation forces hurried up to reach the place to prevent his escape, and a curfew was imposed on Tel Aviv for more than 4 hours. At the end, when they tried to take the camera footage from Masjid Yaffa, they found him and killed him.

Reactions on the Operation:

Ra'ed's father's reaction inspired all the Palestinians and filled their hearts with national and spiritual energy, making him targeted by the Israeli occupation forces as the Israeli Intelligence summoned him. Yet, he rejected, saying "whoever wants me, comes and takes me."

The Israeli occupation sought to invade Jenin, but was confronted by a violent resistance from the camp's sons. That resulted in the martyrdom of some Palestinian youths and the arrest of some others; as a result, the occupation forces took steps back.

In response to this wave of fedayeen operations, some Israeli officials expect Operation Defensive Shield '2' to erupt again, under the pretext of eliminating terrorism. On the other side, some others stated that it is possible to carry out a limited military operation against Jenin.

The question here is: did Operation Defensive Shield '1' succeeded in achieving its goals to start a Second Defensive Shield?

Gaza's Intervention:

Ziyad Al-Nakhalah, the Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad Movement, stated that the incursion into the Jenin camp means entering into a battle against the occupation forces from inside Gaza, accompanied by the power of its resistance. The intervention of the resistance factions in Gaza in this confrontation is a complement to what happened in May 2021, during which it could link Al-Quds and the West Bank with the resistance of the Gaza Strip, and make it included in the occupation's calculations once it took decisions.

In case the resistance intervention was imposed on Gaza, it should be strategic rather than just being an intervention emanating from a haphazard reaction to what is happening for several considerations, including:

  1. The loss of the Palestinian resistance of its capabilities, which will be hard to accumulate again under the severe blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.
  2. The suffering of the Gaza Strip from the effects of that intervention, along the forms of blockade adopted for more than 15 years.

The Palestinian Achievement:

The Palestinians' greatest achievement, during their battle of awareness which led to the recent fedayeen operations, is their ability to make the security and military systems retreat from acting in a genius manner. Instead of detecting any lines leading to planned operations and failing them by arresting or killing the fedayeen; before they occur, they treat them after being carried out. The fedayeen, each time, choose new, unexpectable dates and locations for their operations. Moreover, they adopt the media blackout tactic, in which they never publish any factors on their social media outlets before implementing their operations. They also deliberately do not carry their smartphones, all of which refers to the Palestinians' awareness in this battle.

As result, the Israeli occupation takes a step back in front of the Palestinians' development in terms of planning, readiness and implementation.

Trying to break the deadlock:

What is currently happening is Bennett government's attempts to emerge with a moral victory on the Israeli street. Being busy with the search for this moral victory will make them walk behind what brings them into a circle that will not end in their favor, as happened in the 2006 Bint Jbeil Battle in Lebanon.

Subsequently, that could lead Bennett to take unrestricted steps. He will either give orders to assassinate one of Gaza's resistance leaders, or carry out a major massacre in Jenin, forcing Gaza to engage in an indispensable battle.

This comes during the weakness of the Israeli occupation's political, security and military leadership in a situation that has not been seen by Israel since its establishment on the 1948 Palestinian territories.
