Israel's Channel 12 reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will hold a security consultation today, attended by Defense Minister Israel Katz, Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, to discuss plans for expanding operations in the Gaza Strip.

According to Nahum Barnea, a political analyst for the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi is expected to present Netanyahu with three alternatives for expanding military operations in Gaza. These alternatives involve launching military operations on the outskirts of populated areas and "do not include the occupation of Gaza City or the entire Gaza Strip."

He added that Israeli military estimates suggest that a decision to launch a full-scale occupation could dismantle the Israeli army and subject "Israel" to unprecedented international isolation.
