On the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian Journalist,
“A Story Behind a Photo” Exhibition Opened

The head of the Government Media Office, Salama Maroof, called for providing protection for the Palestinian journalists from the Israeli occupation and its crimes against them.

Today, Sunday, this came during the opening of the exhibition of “A Story Behind a Photo” -implemented by the Government Media Office in partnership with PALM Strategic Initiative Center, in the Gaza Strip- to document the occupation violations against the Palestinian journalists in the occupied West Bank, and the besieged Gaza Strip, marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian Journalist on September 26th each year.

Maroof said that these pictures were stained with blood and baptized the march of a people who were and are still struggling for their freedom, adding that 50 journalists have lost their lives since 2000 until now in order to spread the truth and expose the crimes of the occupation against the Palestinian people, the last of whom were journalists Shireen Abu Aqleh and Ghufran Warasneh, while hundreds were injured, some of them with permanent disabilities. This confirms the unchecked state of Israeli persecution and criminality after the failure of international legitimacy to stop the occupation and protect journalists.

He also called for providing them with the simplest protection tools, whether the helmet or the vest, which the occupation has prevented from entering for more than 15 years, in addition to preventing the freedom of travel and movement abroad even if for treatment, in addition to the destruction of dozens of institutions and press offices, and offset by violations and crimes in the West Bank, whether by arrest, confiscation of identities, and physical assault, or murder.

The Executive Director of the Cinta Gaza Malaysia praised the performance of Palestinian journalists, especially during wars, and said: “I have not seen a media scene like the one in the Gaza Strip, we see the news of the bombing being published in all its details on all media sources before its smoke ends. Hats off for the journalists because they are the voice of Al-Quds, Al-Aqsa and Palestine”.

The wounded journalist, Sami Musran, a spokesman for journalists, reviewed some of the occupation's violations against journalists, saying that the occupation army called him several times while he was covering the return marches on the Gaza Strip borders, and threatened to kill him, and that his injury was intended to kill him.

Musran called for launching a youth initiative to alleviate the suffering of wounded journalists on social media platforms.

He also conveyed a message to the occupation that it would not be able to stop the truth, and the Palestinian journalist will continue his work until the liberation of Palestine.

The exhibition included 6 sections, which showed pictures of the 50 martyrs who were martyred since 2000 until now, and pictures of captured journalists in the occupation’s prisons, in addition to the violations of the occupation against journalists in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, the destruction of press offices, and pictures documenting journalists during their work, it also included a corner for drawing paintings inspired by those present at the exhibition.

Dozens of journalists, directors of research centers, in addition to dozens of university and school students, attended the exhibition. Two Malaysian films on the liberation of Malaysia were shown to indicate that no matter how long the occupation last, it must end, as long as the people continue to struggle for freedom.
