Israeli Incursions and Security Operations in the Occupied West Bank

The Israeli occupation army announced a complete closure in the cities of the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, starting from the beginning of the Jewish holidays on Tuesday evening. This came in conjunction with warnings of expected operations from the resistance and wide incursions into several cities and villages, under the pretext of detaining resistance fighters or killing them. These incursions included Nablus, Ramallah, Hebron, Jenin, and Ain El Sultan camp in Jericho.

The Israeli occupation army and its security agencies also announced a complete closure of Nablus city, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank, in the light of fighting resistance groups calling themselves “Lions' Den”. They also increased intelligence activities through monitoring and chasing operations and consecutive incursions. In this context, PM Yair Lapid admitted that the resistance groups in the West Bank cities, especially in Jenin and Nablus, have become a great threat to Israel.

As a result of the Israeli operations, 16 Palestinians were martyred and 350 others were injured last September. In response, the Palestinian resistance stepped up its activities. Thus, during the same month, it implemented 20 shooting operations toward the settlers and the Israeli occupation army. These operations reached its peak during the last two days, as 11 operations were implemented, targeting the settlements of Elon Moreh, Bet El, Itamar, Kiryat Arba, and Huwwara checkpoint. It resulted in the injury of a settler and an Israeli soldier, and caused damage to settlers' vehicles.

Scene Analysis:

- Zionist incursions are considered part of the Israeli security doctrine, which comes in the context of fighting the resistance groups in the cities and villages of the occupied West Bank.

- The escalation of the Israeli operations in the cities of the West Bank in general, and Nablus city in particular, constitutes an Israeli admission of the strength of the resistance there and the high price incurred by the resistance to the occupation forces and settlers.

- The Israeli operations come in conjunction with the Knesset elections in the upcoming month, which really affect the votes that PM Lapid and defense minister Gantz may receive.

- The West Bank situation poses a great threat to the Israeli occupation leaders, as they fear the transmission of resistance style in Gaza to the West Bank. Hence, the occupation is trying so hard to confront any resistance activity in the West Bank.

Possible Scenarios: Based on the previous scene analysis, it is expected that:

1- The capabilities and strategies of the resistance will keep improving gradually, as they will be more organized and well-armed in confronting the Israeli army's forces and in a way that increases pressure on the occupation. This scenario is enhanced by the active and improving status that the resistance enjoys in the West Bank, despite the security pursuit and military operations against it. Also, the constant failure of the Israeli army and its security agencies to terminate the resistance's activities there.

2-The ability of the Israeli army to eliminate the resistance and military activities in the occupied West Bank through a constant series of security and military operations. This scenario is enhanced by the security and military efforts in fighting the resistance. Also, the constant security coordination between the Israeli army and security agencies in the West Bank.

Generally, the scenarios remain present and possible, with the preference of the first one, which is the most predicted in light of the quick and constant recovery of the resistance in the West Bank and the determination of the Palestinian people to fight for their land, as well as the failure of the Israeli security agencies in dominating the resistance or terminating it, despite all the efforts made during the past years.
