In the north-occupied West Bank, the Lions' Den group's influence began to grow. There was a widespread response in some Palestinian villages and cities to the call of the group's men to go on a general strike in solidarity with the refugees of Shu'fat Camp after the blockade imposed on them. This followed the operation that killed the female solider, Noa Lazar.
The activities of this group are concentrated in Nablus, but they spread as well in other areas of the West Bank. As the men of the group try to maintain the Palestinians' support and exploit their sympathy by mobilizing it for resistance work. A few days ago, on the Prophet's birthday, they went out to the streets and started to give sweets to the people. They try to create an image of “real freedom fighters” to contrast with the other freedom fighters from other groups, who fear the Palestinians. This group has a strong presence on social media, where they share video footage of the operations they carry out against Israeli soldiers. Hence, they become an example to be followed among the Palestinian youth.
The Lions' Den group, in fact, exploits the weaknesses of the Palestinian Authority and that the Palestinians are fed up with it. Thus, they gain much support. On the other hand, some think that the Lions' Den group would vanish soon if they didn't get sponsored by one of the prominent bodies with a clear schedule and plan. They belong to different groups; some of them belong to Fatah, some to Hamas, some to Jihad, and others don't belong to any group. Moreover, it is expected that if this group continued to work without a clear identity, this would lead to conflicts among them because each group has a completely different vision and ideology.
The Palestinian Authority is concerned about the great power of the Lions' Den group, as they refused yesterday an offer from the Palestinian Authority to put their weapons away and join the Palestinian security agencies. Also, they refuted the reports which claimed that some men from the group hand themselves to the Palestinian Authority, and considered such rumors as false.
