Disputes in the Formation of the New Occupation Government

Nov 15, 2022 10:38 am

Israeli reports revealed that the coalition negotiations to form the new occupation government stalled between Likud Party chairman Benjamin Netanyahu and his partners in the Haredi and Religious Zionism Movement.

The Israeli broadcaster Makan said that Netanyahu met with the head of the Shas party, Aryeh Deri, and offered him the military portfolio, after the rejection of Smotrich and his desire for the Ministry of Finance. It also added that this came under a near-total break between Netanyahu and Smotrich almost a week ago.

Itmar Ben-Gvir continues to raise his demands for entry into Netanyahu's government, demanding the inclusion of a "death penalty for terrorists" law, referring to Palestinians, in what has been described as a "Likud challenge."
