The occupation government is facing a sharp strategic dilemma between continuing military operations and shifting to a political path, amid escalating disagreements between the military and political leaderships.
According to a report published by the Israeli newspaper Maariv, the Israeli Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevi, has been attempting for days to convene a meeting of the Security Cabinet to present future combat plans for Gaza. However, the occupation’s Prime Minister opposes holding the session, preventing the approval or even discussion of these plans.
Security sources expressed frustration over the lack of clarity from the political leadership. One security source said: "We made it clear to the political leadership the consequences of continuing the fighting on the army’s readiness, and there is significant exhaustion among front-line troops," adding that communication and coordination between the army and political leadership is now almost nonexistent.
Military analyst Avi Issacharoff warned in the newspaper that the Israeli army is reaching an unprecedented level of erosion.
