Bezalel Smotrich, the Israeli minister of finance, ordered further deductions from the Palestinian clearing house.
According to Israeli Channel 7, these payments will be added to the 138 million shekels that were deducted from the Palestinian clearing house in January. Smotrich reportedly made the decision to deduct money from the clearing house in order to provide compensation for the families of the murdered Israelis.
Shukri Bishara, the Palestinian Minister of Finance, responded by stating that Israel's deductions from the clearing house worsen the Palestinian budget's deficit. He also urged the international community to put pressure on Israel to release the funds, which it has been withholding since 2019, for a total of about $800 million at the moment.
