Introduction

During the year 2001 and with outbreak of the Al-Aqsa Intifada, the Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip had announced that they managed to produce local projectiles capable of targeting Israeli settlements, located 2-5 kilometers away. However, between 2007-2011, the range of projectiles expanded due to advancements in local production, reaching 40 km. Some Russian-made projectiles from the Grad rocket family (BM-21) were introduced. This prompted the Israeli occupation to seek solutions, leading to the establishment of the Iron Dome.
