The meeting's organizer, President Mahmoud Abbas, came to the new city of El Alamein to meet up with the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Monday and then preside over the subsequent meeting a few hours later.
Ismail Haniyeh, the chairman of Hamas' political bureau, and a team from the movement's leadership arrived in Egypt to attend the conference, according to a statement released by the Hamas movement.
