The United Nations confirmed that attacks by settlers in the occupied West Bank have significantly increased.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that it documented 591 incidents related to settlers in the occupied territories during the first six months of 2023, resulting in injuries to Palestinians, damage to properties, or both.
UN spokesperson, Jens Laerke, told journalists in Geneva that this represents an average of 99 incidents per month, a 39% increase compared to the monthly average for the entire year of 2022, which was 71 incidents.
According to the report, there are 490,000 settlers living in settlements established in violation of international law in the West Bank, including East Al-Quds. In contrast, the number of Palestinians living in the occupied West Bank is approximately three million people.
