The Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, made a decision that would go into effect at the start of next September that forbids the early release of children. The Jerusalem Governorate issued a warning about this decision.
In a statement, the governorate acknowledged that this choice would permit the incarceration of more Palestinian children, particularly Jerusalemites, preventing them from attending school and forcing them to serve their prison terms in detention facilities.
Statistics from the Jerusalem Governorate's Public Relations Unit show that out of the 1,800 detainees in Jerusalem, 208 of them were youngsters during the first half of this year.
