Retno Marsudi, the foreign minister of Indonesia, urged adherence to the sovereignty concept and vowed to continue supporting the establishment of the Palestinian state in her address to the United Nations General Assembly at the seventy-eighth session in New York.

"For far too long, we have allowed our Palestinian brothers and sisters to suffer. Indonesia will not back an inch in our support for Palestinian statehood," Retno stated.

The Indonesian people and government hold the opinion that their constitution foretells the establishment of the Palestinian state, and the Indonesian government has frequently demanded an end to the occupation of Palestinian territory.
