Zaher Al-Wahidi, Director of the Health Information Unit at the Ministry of Health in Gaza, stated that 22,000 patients and injured individuals are suffering from severe health conditions and need treatment outside the Gaza Strip due to the lack of necessary resources caused by the Israeli war on Gaza.
Al-Wahidi explained that only 1,100 patients have been allowed to travel through the Rafah crossing since the ceasefire began in Gaza, while 370 patients have been allowed to travel through the Kerem Shalom checkpoint in the southern part of the Strip since May 7, 2024. He also mentioned that 328 patients died while waiting for permission to travel outside the Gaza Strip.
According to Al-Wahidi, the resumption of the aggression has led to over 1,869 injuries, the majority of which are severe and include second- and third-degree burns, with some requiring amputations. He noted that 25% of these serious injuries require long-term treatment and rehabilitation, and about 15% need medical transfers for treatment abroad.
He confirmed that hospitals in Gaza are facing a severe shortage of beds, especially in the Gaza and northern governorates, where bed occupancy exceeds 120% in Gaza. He also mentioned that the Ministry of Health lost 10 oxygen stations during the conflict, highlighting the need to establish field hospitals and medical delegations to support the health teams working to continue providing healthcare services.
