ICJ Sessions Continue to Hold Israel Accountable

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) continues its hearings for the fourth consecutive day, focusing on Israel’s obligations toward the United Nations, its agencies, and institutions in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The ICJ began a week-long series of hearings last Monday to examine Israel’s humanitarian responsibilities toward Palestinians. This comes over 50 days into Israel’s total blockade on aid entering war-torn Gaza. Thirty-eight countries, including the U.S., China, France, Russia, Saudi Arabia, as well as the Arab League, OIC, and African Union, are delivering arguments this week.

The public hearings are scheduled from April 28 to May 2, 2025, with 44 countries and 4 international organizations expressing intent to participate.

The process follows a UN General Assembly resolution adopted in December, proposed by Norway, requesting the ICJ to issue an advisory opinion on Israel’s obligations to facilitate the unimpeded delivery of urgent humanitarian aid to Palestinians.
