Today, Palestinian prisoner Muhi Al-Din Najm, aged 60, died at Soroka Hospital in Israel.

The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club stated that Najm had been arrested on August 8, 2023, and had spent a total of approximately 19 years in Israeli prisons. Despite suffering from chronic health issues, including kidney problems, the prison authorities denied him proper medical treatment.

The organizations also highlighted that Naqab Prison, where Najm was being held, remains one of the most notorious for severe violations. Among these is the continued spread of scabies, which, they said, has been turned by prison authorities into a deliberate tool of slow death for detainees. Most prisoners who died in custody, they emphasized, were victims of torture or systematic medical negligence.

Since the beginning of the genocidal war on Gaza, the number of confirmed martyrs from among Palestinian prisoners has risen to 66, whose identities are known — while many others remain forcibly disappeared. The total number of confirmed prisoner martyrs since 1967 has now reached 303.

Moreover, the number of prisoner martyrs whose bodies remain withheld by Israeli authorities has reached 75, including 64 since the current war began.
