Abdel Nasser Al-Ajrami, head of the Bakery Owners Association in the Gaza Strip, stated that only 4 bakeries have been reactivated out of 25 bakeries contracted with the World Food Programme (WFP).
He added that these four bakeries are currently operating in Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip, while the Israeli occupation prevents the operation of several main bakeries in other areas by forcing residents to evacuate and declaring those regions as “red zones”—such as Khan Younis and northern Gaza.
Al-Ajrami confirmed that flour supplies are extremely limited and have not reached most governorates due to the Israeli army’s control over truck movements, and also due to looting by rogue groups in Khan Younis. He noted that only 50 bakeries remain out of the original 140, with the rest having been bombed.
He further stated that the Israeli authorities allowed a small number of flour trucks into Gaza last Tuesday following a decision by the Israeli security cabinet (the Cabinet), which are far from sufficient to meet even the minimal needs of the population.
